The Kinect, designed to interface with the Xbox 360 gaming console, can also be connected to a standard PC using recently available open-source software. To get a feel for how this new tool might be useful beyond the Xbox, we did some late night experiments with putting together some software for it. We're very excited about the Kinect as it has the potential to encourage a wide variety of interesting applications, and it drastically simplifies many computer vision problems.
